Prior to testing
  • Sufficient sleeping.
  • Urine sampling and female check is avoided during menstruation.
  • Fasting requirement: light dinner prior to testing date, no alcohol and coffee. No breakfast in the morning, little water is allowed, no strenuous exercise.
Blood Testing
  • Fasting 8 hr is preferable for tests including lipids and glucose.
  • Please report fainting history during blood taking for precaution purpose.
  • Press at least 5 minutes after blood taking.
Blood Pressure, Resting ECG, Treadmill
  • Blood Pressure – Avoid strenuous activities before testing.
  • Resting ECG - Avoid strenuous activities before testing.
  • Treadmill – Causal or sporty wear is necessary. Full stomach should be avoided. Do not use cream, talcum powder or lotion over the chest. Inform staff if long-term medication is using.
Ultrasound
  • About Full Bladder - It is important to note that an urge to pass urine does not indicate you are having full bladder. A really full bladder will make you feel uncomfortable. Ultrasound requires full bladder will be judged by our sonographer.
  • Pelvis / Prostate – Full bladder is required.
  • Upper Abdomen – Fasting 4-6 hours, person with cholecystectomy not applied. Little water is allowed.
  • Whole Abdomen –Fasting 4-6 hours, person with cholecystectomy not applied. Full bladder is required.
X-Ray (Plain, Contrast & Mammogram)
  • If pregnant, any x-ray examination (such as plain, contrast or mammogram) must not be done.
  • Alimentary Tract Contrast – Fasting and fluid intake prohibition for 8 hours are required for barium meal and follow-through. Special preparation prior to examination is required for barium enema. Please contact staff for details.
  • Hysterosalpingography – Sexual intercourse is not allowed from the first day of menstruation until examination.
  • Examination should be done within 3 days after menstruation clears up.
  • Mammogram – Avoid any deodorant lotion or powder before examination.
  • IVU/IVP – Fasting 4 hours before examination. Inform staff for diseases such as asthma, DM, or allergies. For DM patients requiring medication, please consult your doctor for adjustment of medication dosage
Pap Smear (Female only)
  • Avoid intravaginal drugs for 1 week before examination.
  • Avoid douching and sexual intercourse for 1 day before examination.
  • The test should not be done 3 days before and 7 days after menstruation respectively.
  • Fluids include urine, stool, secretion, semen etc.

  • Urine and stool sample: Collect clean container. Mid-stream urine is recommended. Different portions of the stool sample size like peanut is recommended.
  • Secretion: Usually collected by our female staff. Secretion includes HVS usually for routine testing or Chlamydia examination.
  • Semen should be collected by oneself at home or clinic. Avoid sexual intercourse at least 3 days before examination.
  • Fresh sample within 2-3 hours is recommended. Do not collect sample by using condom, but directly into the container.
Instruction to Recipient of Colonoscopy

3 days before the Examination

  • Patient is recommended to avoid high-fiber food (e.g. vegetables such as spring onions, peanuts, garlic and mushrooms, fruits, oatmeal, etc.)
  • Patients can have meats, congee, noodles, rice and rice noodles.
  • Patients should stop taking Warfarin, iron tablets, Aspirin and Stool softeners for 3 days. (Patient who takes these drugs can consult family doctor or our centre before stop taking the drugs.)

1 day before the Examination

  • Patients may eat fish congee or congee with minced meat only. Avoid eating high-fiber food.
  • No eating after 6:30pm.
  • Take two 5mg Dulcolax at 7:30pm. Take KLEAN-PREP for once at 8pm and 10pm respectively.
Dilute method for KLEAN-PREP (applicable to patients who suffer from heart diseases, kidney diseases, DM, or aged 55 or above)
  • Use 1L of boiled water to dilute 1 pack of KLEAN-PREP. After taking the diluted KLEAN-PREP, drink appropriate amount of "Clear fluid". (such as PocariSweat, Ribena, honey water, clear soup, tea, fruit juice, boiled water and jelly without fruit flesh.)
  • Patient need to take KLEAN-PREP for twice in the whole process of bowel preparation. Take 1 pack of KLEAN-PREP each time. Do not eat after taking KLEAN-PREP and have Clear fluid only. No eating and drinking 4 hours before the Examination.
Attention
  • Do not eat or drink for 1 hour before taking KLEAN-PREP. Take KLEAN-PREP slowly to prevent abdominal distention and vomiting. 2) For diabetes mellitus patients, please stop taking medicine on that day. No need to stop taking anti-hypertensive drugs.
  • If sedative medicine is given, patient may feel drowsy and need to be accompanied by family when listening to the report of examination. Do not drive or sign legal document after procedure.
  • Patients are suggested to drink more clear fluid as it helps achieving a better result of bowel preparation. If the colour of the final stage of stool is clear and of light yellow colour like urine, the bowel preparation is completed.
